Biography

Universal recording artist Mayra Veronica is climbing the Billboard Hot Dance Club charts with her latest dance single "Freak Like Me". This new record which includes remixes by Eddie Amador and Grammy award winning producer Dave Aude' is set to release in September 2011. In the video for the single, she stars alongside iconic Italian American actor Antonio Sabato Jr. Mayra's performance style has been described as "Pussycat Dolls meets Dita Von Teese meets Britney." In 2010, her first dance single "If You Wanna Fly" peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club chart and earned her six U.S. Billboard chart-topping titles.


Mayra, already a major star in the Latin community for her debut album "Vengo Con To" and as the former co-host of the popular Latin television show Don Francisco Presenta for Univision. She has appeared on the covers of many magazines including Billboard, Selecta, Maxim, FHM, Urban Latino, Poder and more.


Born in Havana, Cuba to a musical family; her father was a hugely successful musician as a member of Los Dada. However, Mayra did not immediately embrace music as a career. At age 5 she moved to Miami with her mother and sister and eventually began practicing ballet. The family was struggling financially and her mother was unable to continue to afford her lessons. Mayra's entrepreneurial side manifested itself and the school gave her free lessons because she spread the word among her friends and brought in many new students.


As a teenager, Mayra developed her now famous curves and began competing in local beauty pageants, landing her the titles of Miss Miami and Miss Hispanic America. She attended Florida International University with a double major in Psychology and Theater. Her first job in the entertainment industry was as a reporter for "Miami Hoy" where she interviewed notable public figures such as Donald Trump, Oscar de la Renta, Hugh Heffner, Tim Allen and Rosie O'Donnell. She also pursued her acting career and studied at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York. Mayra has appeared in many commercials in the Latin market, including campaigns for L'Oreal, Coca Cola, Ford etc., along with an English Nike Campaign alongside LebronJames. She also co-starred as Lucy (Lead Role) in the PBS TV drama The Suitor, and has had companies like EAS gaming, create an animated character for the popular Video Game Icon in her image.


Her work with Univison soon followed and before long her sexy curves got the attention of the troops overseas. She was named the United States Marines' "Favorite Pin-up Girl" and USO spokesperson, as such she has done over seven worldwide tours while traveling and performing with the Chairman of the joint chiefs of Staff and other renowned talent such as Wilmer Valderrama, Russell Peters, Pitbull, The Ying Yang twins, Bob Greasie and more. She presented at Obama's Inaugural Ball alongside Larry King, Made presentations with Gary Sinise and George W. Bush at the Bush's estate in College Station Texas, was the first Cuban/American to ring the Nasdaq Bell , and has appeared on many of FOX's shows including Bill O'Reilly, where she was dubbed the "Modern Betty Grable."


Mayra lives in Beachwood Canyon with her cat Lucas Miguel and her five rescue dogs Kenda, Nanny, Sophie, Princess and Ivan. She enjoys working out and practices ballet and Pilates. Mayra continues USO tours and is an advocate and spokesperson for The Wounded Warrior Project, The USO and UNICEF.
